Curating Connection
Is A Sign Someone Reaching Out Because They Miss You
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A gas station on a rough day. A stranger draped in silver and turquoise. Then he calls out to his partner—and her name is Liz, the same friend Jed lost. Moments like these reframe coincidence into connection, and they’re the heartbeat of this conversation about signs, grief, and how loved ones may still be reaching for us.
We move from story to structure with the SIGN method: Silence, Intention, Gratitude, Noticing. Silence doesn’t demand long meditations; it can be a single breath in a parked car, a sunrise you actually watch, or a quiet walk without earbuds. Intention gives your attention a target—name the sign, set a time frame, write it down. Gratitude recalibrates your state, lifting you from tightness into openness so more small moments get through. Noticing is the practice that turns mystery into meaning: record repeating numbers, names, songs, feathers, or tech oddities and let the log reveal patterns over time.
Jed also shares a startling tech moment: an iPhone frozen on “mom” until he greeted her out loud. We explore why technology and electricity often carry these messages—flickering lights, unexpected notifications, memory prompts that land right when you need them. The theme running through it all is grief as waves and ripples: the initial crash softens, but the motion endures. By tuning our environment—decluttering, creating visual calm, staying hydrated, and taking three deep breaths—we make it easier to perceive the subtle. And we open the door for kids to share their own stories, normalizing connection and comfort across generations.
Join our intention challenge: pick a specific sign, set a clear window, practice small moments of silence, give thanks up front, and document what arrives. Then tell us what you noticed and how it made you feel. If this conversation helped you feel seen or curious, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a quick review with the sign you’re asking for next.

Welcome And Purpose Of Signs
SPEAKER_00That unique perspective about how signs come to us came from my brother Jed Brazier. Jed is here today, and I'm really excited to curate this moment of connection with you today, Jed. Welcome.
SPEAKER_01Happy to be here.
SPEAKER_00This is so exciting. Thank you for being here and willing to explore your sign stories with us.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. I think this will be a great conversation.
Liz, Turquoise, And The Gas Station Moment
SPEAKER_00So let's dig right in. And why don't you share with me maybe one of the first times you've received a sign and the story around it? Sure.
SPEAKER_01I think the first time I recall really seeing a sign. A dear friend of mine who's no longer with us. Her name was Liz. I got a couple for from her. But the first time, you know, we would she was a college friend of mine, and we would stay up and wax poetic and solve all the world's problems, right? And I remember at some time we were talking about things we would do if, or whatever, or being comfortable in our own skin. And I remember sharing, you know, I think I'm really like New Mexico's silver jewelry turquoise guy, but it's just not quite my wheelhouse. And she thought it was funny and that it fit. And not not more than probably six months after she was no longer with us. And I was having kind of a crummy day. And I stopped for gas and I looked over and I saw a guy just in it like a comical amount of like that uh silver and uh turquoise Navajo inspired jewelry. And as I walk in, I went, Hey Tex, I like the jewelry. He goes, Thanks, man. I go in, I pay for gas, I come back out to my car. And as I'm getting into my car, I notice that he's like washing the windshield and he leans over his shoulder and goes, Hey Liz, let's get going. And his lady person uh was coming out of the gas station, and her name was Liz. So I think those two things made me go, oh wait, hang on. All right. I see ya, thank you. You know, sometimes we have to tune out the world around us, and sometimes we need to tune in. I think we all need to tune out more often than we do, certainly myself. But that was the first time I feel like I really picked up on a sign.
SPEAKER_00That's the exact kind of moment that sometimes people overlook and you recognized it. Yeah I I noticed that you said that the gentleman was kind of overflowing with all of this jewelry or ornate ornateness.
SPEAKER_01Very much so.
SPEAKER_00Do you think that Liz had been sending you signs any earlier than that or not? I always find it curious when the universe shows up with like these big bold signs, right? It wasn't just like a little ring, yeah. And and then to put the icing on the top of all the names of people riding with this gentleman, it was Liz. Like, how did that hit you? How did that hit you?
SPEAKER_01It was it was very weird. At first, he was like, Well, that can't be right, and then it was like, No, of course it's right, it's perfectly right, and that is what happened. And yeah, I you know, had he been, you know, he was a guy also putting gas in his car across the you know on the other side of the fuel depot, right? So one ring I probably wouldn't notice, two rings I probably wouldn't notice. So yeah, he was like dripping in almost comically so. So yeah, I would guess that there had been signs before that I hadn't picked up on, and uh, this is one that she kind of decided to beat me over the head with because clearly I wasn't tuned in.
SPEAKER_00Do you feel like Liz was trying to bring you peace at that moment or connection or guidance or just kind of her crazy personality? Do tell.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I think it was just a little, you know, pat on the shoulder saying, Hey, I'm all right, or I'm thinking about you, sort of thing. Yeah, yeah. I don't think it was uh, you know, play these lotto numbers, but I do think it was I hope you're feeling better, or I miss you, or something along those lines.
SPEAKER_00Just an acknowledgement, I think, is really what that was. Well, I mean, we probably could try for the lotto numbers at some time too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's true. I would not say no.
Interpreting Big Signs And Timing
SPEAKER_00So I noticed that you did say that maybe you might have been just having a little bit of a day that day. Do you feel like the timing of that moment was purposeful? Or why then?
SPEAKER_01I think I think it was. I think it was. I think it was, you know, we it's seldom that we are lost in our heads on good days, right? We're we're in the moment, we're enjoying it, we're laughing with our friends, or enjoying a great meal, or whatever. It's the days when I don't feel good, or blah blah blah. That's when we are usually kind of stuck in the cacophony of noise that uh both the world and our our heads can bring, right? So I think that was kind of a wake-up moment, not really a wake-up moment, but a hey, hey, relax, sort of thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she's still she still had your back, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I think so.
SPEAKER_00And likely you might have been in conversation with her on days like that as a pick-me-up for actually, that's a very good point.
SPEAKER_01That's that is exactly the type of day that uh one of us would have called the other and just vented for a little bit and made the other one laugh and moved on with life.
Mom’s Name Stuck On The iPhone
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's so powerful, just so powerful. I know that you also had a very powerful sign that you received from our mom. And I would love for you to share with us kind of how that all unfolded because it's quite unusual.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Excuse me. Yeah, I was just kind of normal morning, get up, go to work. I try and be pretty aggressive with my sleep hygiene, right? So usually when I go to bed, I plug my phone in, but it's actually outside my room, it's not within arm's reach, blah, blah, blah. And this morning was very much like that. And woke up probably a little on the late side and was a little rushed to go to work, but I turned off the alarm on my phone, threw it in my chest pocket, went out to my car, drove to work. And then when I got to work, I pulled the phone out of my pocket, and it said mom on the search bar on my iPhone. But I hadn't used the phone. I don't have Siri set up, so having it there was kind of weird, but also I couldn't X out of it. So just to prove to myself that I wasn't seeing anything, or I wasn't seeing things, I went to one of my coworkers at the office and went, hey, uh, can you close this? I don't know if my hands are cold or whatever, but the X isn't working. Nope. Oh, that's stuck. That's weird. Spooky. Like, I know, right? So I couldn't X out of it. So I went and I sat down at my desk at work, and I took a deep breath, and I just said, Hi mom. I see you. I see you too. And then I shut off my phone and started back up and it acted normal. But yeah, that was a super weird thing for me.
SPEAKER_00Was there anything unusual happening with your phone the day before all this happened, Jet?
SPEAKER_01Oh no, not at all. It was just standard everyday as usual sort of thing. So it was doubly unusual because of that.
SPEAKER_00When you were seeing mom's name locked on your phone screen, what was your immediate reaction? What do you think she was trying to say to you in that moment?
SPEAKER_01You know, at the like it took a second to realize, oh, this is one of those things. I I was more annoyed that my phone wasn't working, to be honest. But then I was like, wait a minute, this this actually means something because I've been missing mom quite a bit. And you know, I I think that was her kind of reaching out and saying hello, or that I'm thinking of you too.
SPEAKER_00And I think that a lot of people feel this way, that this is something everyone deals with at some point in their life, is like a loss of a loved one, whether it's a parent, a sibling, a friend. Um and you know, it really wasn't a glitch, right? No, there must have been there, must must have been a moment when you're like, oh, this is mom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure.
Are Signs Them Reaching Out
SPEAKER_00And in the beginning of this episode, Jed, you kind of shared some insight on your thoughts, which are covered in my See the Signs book. You shared the story with us, but your thoughts on about if we're how we're receiving a sign or if a sign is actually, and I'm gonna let you lead into that a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I think you know, this is I guess this is personal stuff, right? So there's gonna be different perspectives, but I tend to think, you know, those types of connections that you see are not your brain trying to make sense out of something or organize maybe some confusing feelings or some overlapping things. I tend to think things like that aren't us seeing something that isn't there. I like to think that that thing we see is them thinking of us. Because I don't I I don't believe when someone passes, they're just gone, right? I mean not prescribed any particular organized religion, but I do think that there is this collective consciousness or that we return to that our spirit kind of lives on in. I think sometimes they can feel us struggling or feeling big feelings and reach out and try and give us a little affirmation that we are not unseen.
Technology, Electricity, And Modern Signs
SPEAKER_00Wow, that really feels like a moment that really changed everything, right? After mom's passing. And I feel like that information that you brought forth, which I hadn't even really pondered before you uh, you know, sent me your story, is that what if they're actually missing us or they want to communicate with us instead of us always being focused on I want to sign, I want to sign for confirmation. What if it's coming from them before we even know it? Or it's a dual conversation throughout time, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. I do think there is a I like that idea because unlike so much of how we operate, uh it isn't about us per se. It's for us, but it isn't I, right? Like we're all kind of in our own, you know, we're all the hero in our own movie, right? So this is our life, and we think in terms of I or me or mine when it's being pushed to you, that's a different thing. You know, it's a it's a gift someone has given us rather than something I bought myself. Does that make sense?
The SIGN Method Overview
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely. And do you feel like she used the phone because it's was something tied deeply to your relationship to her? Or I know that both our parents really liked us to start the days off good. You think it was just a little good, like you said, like it was her wanting to talk to you that morning?
SPEAKER_01I guess for sure, yeah. And also, you know, this is the the state of the world when we all have our devices we're looking at far too often, but it's kind of perhaps another one of those beach you're over-the-head moments, like, all right, you're gonna look at this dumb phone all the time. I might as well send the message here and make sure that it doesn't get missed because he's certainly not gonna go through the day without grabbing his phone, right? It could have just as well been, you know, magnets on the fridge, but it was the thing that it's a tool you use constantly, so it you can't ignore it.
SPEAKER_00And I wonder if people would start realizing that maybe they are receiving more signs through technology or electrical means, right? Such as a lot of people report like lights flashing on and off or flickering on and off at times, or garage doors opening, or car system issues, like things like that. Yeah, so maybe this is a good time for people to start thinking broader and when they're using their phone, whether it's reading their email or scrolling through social media or even on their lock screen, or I always get like some memories that kind of pop up on specific days, and I'm like, oh, that's so nice. Um that those are signs for them, so don't dismiss what's right in front of your eyes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. I think it's important to try and be open to those things, but I will absolutely admit being a busy-brained person. But I think you have you've kind of put together a method to be more open to such things, have you not?
SPEAKER_00I have. I've been really diving into my signature sign method, which consists of the acronym, you know, S-I-G-N. And do you want me to kind of talk about that to see if people can be in more receivership of signs?
SPEAKER_01And really useful information, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So yeah, receivership to signs, or even this podcast also includes intuition and mindset. And I think these all can kind of go for that. So I'll just kind of do a brief rundown. So S is really for silence, and signs often appear in the quiet moments when we finally slow down enough to receive them. And silence isn't empty, it's really where connection begins, and that can be connecting to yourself or to other things. And there's quite a few different types of silence, and I'm just gonna kind of give you a few, just in case you're like, Kim, I cannot sit and meditate or sit in quietness for very long. So, you know, nature is a good place for silence, like sitting under a tree, going for a walk. I absolutely adore watching the sunrise or sunset from my bedroom window. Also, the sound of waves, like at the water, the beach, or just the lake. Could be sitting or lying in grass, looking at the sky, like you ever just take a peek up and look at all those clouds. Kind of calms you, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely.
Grief, Waves, And Gratitude
SPEAKER_00And then there's kind of little everyday stillness or micro moments of silence, I like to call that require no effort. So there's quietness right when you wake up in the morning, and you could just pause before picking up your phone, just a few moments of silence, or sitting in your car before you go inside somewhere. Maybe just a moment of silence before a meal, taking a few breaths before speaking. And then there's kind of like that sensory silence that I think people don't think about a lot, because as you mentioned, we are really bombarded with a lot of stimulation in the world right now, especially technology. So kind of turning off notifications, using these noise-canceling headphones, even if you're not listening to a podcast. But always tune into this podcast, guys. And then kind of some like soft lighting or candles. I work overnight. So when I'm in the office overnight, I always turn down the lights just to kind of soften that effect on my sensories. Um, you can just sit in a dark room for a minute, wrap yourself up in a blanket, or stay wrapped up in your blanket and close your eyes. And then also you could just do some movement-based silence, just walking, yoga, stretching, driving with the radio up. And then also journaling or doodling or drawing. A lot of people like to craft or garden or you know, those types of creative silences. And then there's always like breathing, you know, if you want to do some breath work exercises. Also, I think just sitting in meditation is still always good, but meditation can just be moments to minutes to hours, so you can leave that up to yourself. So that's kind of S. And then I is all about intention. And Jed, did you ever set an intention to get a sign before you received one from Liz or mom?
SPEAKER_01You know, I don't think it ever occurred to me, but I like that concept. So I think I will choose to do that. Should we challenge each other to send intention to see that sign?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all right, that's cool. Let's get our listeners involved too.
SPEAKER_01That's a good I like it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so with intention, you guys, you can set an intention with a spoken word, you can speak out loud what you would like and who you'd like a sign from. You can write that down as well. You can kind of pray for it, or you can journal around it. If you want to be very specific, like Jed got that very specific turquoise jewelry sign, and then that confirmation from Liz with her name being said. So, Jed, maybe we should maybe we should set a time frame of when we're gonna get receive our sign, what our sign is, like be very specific. Okay, and with this challenge, then we can come back and tell the listeners what our sign was, how long it took us to receive it, and what form of intention and other things we used in the sign method. What do you think about that?
Noticing, Evidence, And Daily Practice
SPEAKER_01Love it. I'm doing it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right, excellent. And then G is for gratitude or for grounding. And I really feel like gratitude is something that we talk about a lot and we do get in the habit of practicing it, but sometimes we forget on the days that we're having kind of those emotions that if we start back to the highest frequency, which is gratitude, everything will kind of align. So gratitude is when you feel grateful, your senses are heightened, you notice small moments, you pay attention to things, you don't brush off things that are coincidental. And when you're grateful, even before the sign arrives, you're kind of telling the universe, I'm open, I'm ready, I trust what's coming. And that shift from longing to readiness softens your energy and it makes you more perceptive and more aware of what's already being sent your way. And then maybe we won't get over that hit over the head with the signs because we'll see the beauty and the small signs that are already there.
SPEAKER_01Very good point, Elephant.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know for me when I was going through grief where I have periods of grief or uncertainty, kind of ebbs and flows, don't you think?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. Oh, yeah. It's uh, I believe our youngest sister said it comes in waves, and it really can and does.
SPEAKER_00I a hundred percent agree with that. I don't know that it ever fully goes away. I would imagine in 20 years from now we might be having that same conversation about people that we love.
SPEAKER_01Um I think so. I think it's that big stone tossed in a pond sort of thing. You know, it's that initial is big and disruptive and heavy and messy, and then those ripples kind of keep going, but they can get a little smaller, but they're still going for quite some time.
Live Tech Glitch And Minimalism
SPEAKER_00I love that analogy because I love the water and I can just visualize it right in front of me as I'm looking out at the lake. You know, I'm sure there were times that we skipped stones into the water as kids together. So gratitude really moves you out of fear and into love. I know, like I was just speaking of that uncertainty and that feeling, and fear is really tight, contracted, and closed, where gratitude is open, expansive, and receptive. And signs from loved ones come through love. So when you're in that grateful state, you're meeting them at the frequency they're sending them from. Not that you couldn't get them in moments of despair because I have, but you might be able to receive more. And gratitude is kind of that signal of trust. Being grateful before you receive something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Being grateful before you receive something is like telling the universe, I already know you're working on my behalf. And I think about this as if you're ordering a pizza from your favorite pizza place. So for example, not that domino is my favorite, but it's probably the most common across the country. It's like you put in your order, you know it's gonna arrive, but you don't think about it, right? You're like, you just know it's gonna happen within a time frame. So you already know it's coming, just like the pizza's coming.
SPEAKER_01That's fantastic.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So yeah, and when you're in gratitude for that G and sign method, gratitude really the in your intuition strengthens, synchronicities arrive. Don't you just love when things line up and you're like, holy crap, I can't believe we both were thinking the same thing, or uh I was just talking to somebody about this, and here we are talking about it.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. So we covered silence, intention, gratitude, and this sign method. What does the end stand for?
Helping Kids See And Share Signs
SPEAKER_00Noticing. So I think that everybody should pull out a little piece of paper or a journal if they're gonna participate in this little challenge and or going forward, anyways. So when you start to notice something like, for example, if there's an eagle flying right in front of your front door, oh, that's interesting. Maybe you write that down. What if you start seeing 444 everywhere you're driving, license plates on your phone, on your computer? Oh, that's kind of interesting. So start getting that curiosity, and then you hear that song on the radio that has just the words you need for the day. Does that ever happen to you?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So if we start writing those down, to me, that is building a little vault of evidence. And for those who don't always believe or maybe haven't received the sign that they've wanted, or just are questioning still, or for me, when I'm in a state of despair, I want to go back and have physical proof that it can happen again, or I want to feel so happy because I already know that it is true. So that's how I think noticing works well is creating that evidence. So when you need it, whether when you want to celebrate something or you're in deep grief, you've got that proof.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that's a really salient point. So we have noticing. Sorry, I'm talking over you. I apologize. We're new at this, folks.
SPEAKER_00No, go ahead, Judge. Sum it up.
SPEAKER_01So with the sign method, we have silence, intuition, gratitude, and noticing, which I think may be the hardest thing for people that leaves us with S. What would that stand for in this method?
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's just sign S-I-G and Yeah, but silence can also be stillness. So if you don't like the word silence, you can also use stillness. So yeah, just sign for now. But I am just starting to put this out in the world, and we'll see what happens. And I think Jed popped off for a moment, so I'm just gonna keep on talking and we'll go from there. So we have the sign method, and we have a challenge for you today to kind of open up and start documenting the signs that you see.
SPEAKER_01Sorry about that. That uh speaking of technology, yeah, just lost a little power uh as a I guess reminder. Somebody out there tell us. Remember, there's more than just these devices in front of us.
SPEAKER_00We got a sign live here today on a Sunday morning, our Sunday sign story. Jed, what are you curating connection with in your life right now?
Listener Invitation And Closing Challenge
SPEAKER_01I am trying really hard to cut out the excess. Actually, that's that's a thing that I remember having a conversation with my friend Liz about. We're both, I was a film major and she was as well. So we were talking one night about how, oh, you know, we can just edit and get rid of stuff that doesn't work, right? So I am trying to be more intentional about physical space and create kind of a buffer and some comfort. And getting rid of clutter and that sort of thing. I think we all operate a little smoother mentally when we're not overwhelmed. And overwhelmed can just come from the visuals of stuff in your space, right? So I'm trying to be very intentional about connecting with myself, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, I love it. And are any of those in the sign method are you using anything there that you didn't even realize? Like the stillness or the intentions or the gratitude or the noticing. My guess is maybe you're using the noticing, like you notice how you feel in your space.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Yeah, that's that's probably the most used one. I'd like to think I'm using all of those in pieces, but it's probably time to start putting that together better. But the noticing for sure, I think is where it first comes from, right? You you notice something, so you have to be open to noticing, but you got to notice it first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I want everyone listening to catch this. Number one, it is okay to be intentionally curating connection with yourself, with the space around you, so that you can really tap into the goodness of everything. Because if your cup isn't full, like they say, you know, you're drained, it's really hard to keep our nervous system intact and connect with signs, with loved ones, with our own intuition and be present with our own mindset.
SPEAKER_01Very much so. Very much so.
SPEAKER_00For people who are listening today, Jed, who are maybe doubting signs or haven't yet seen their sign, what would you tell them?
SPEAKER_01I would encourage them to perhaps think about your language when you're thinking of those things. Are you saying, oh, I never see a sign, or that doesn't happen to me, or whatever. That's you know, that that negative uh self-talk, I think can create some negative energy, or at the very least, harm your ability to be open to perceiving those things. So I think it would if you swap that from I never to oh it'd be nice if, or I would really like this, or I'd be so grateful at that. I think it just kind of rewires your brain a little bit in a very soft sense that helps you uh keep an eye out for some things and you know, tune that frequency and yeah, shifting your perception really can make a big difference. I would imagine, yeah. I think so too.
SPEAKER_00Are there any other signs that you've seen or experienced or that your kiddos see or experience?
SPEAKER_01You know, I don't know that they have, or at least if they have, they haven't shared that with me. But I'm gonna investigate that further because that's a great question and a good reason to have a conversation around this. And you know what a what a fun talk you can have with the kids if you talk about that and being open to it and they report back to you. How cool would that be, right? I'm sure you put that with Brianna all the time.
SPEAKER_00I love that. Yeah, Beckett and Olivia, my two grandchildren, they see signs. And in Brianna's podcast interview, she did share of how my grandson actually was kind of challenging my daughter Brianna about seeing a sign. He's like, I'm gonna get a sign from grandma, and she's like thinking, and maybe she even said, Okay, but it might not happen right now. And he's like, It is gonna happen right now. And they had walked outside to their pool, and it was just covered in white feathers. I'm not talking three, we're talking hundreds, and no, there was not a dead bird in their pool. It was feathers everywhere, and of course, he probably came in like a proud little, you know, eight-year-old, probably at that time. It's like, see, Mom, I told you grandma was gonna give me a sign. So, yeah, it would be so fun if the kiddos knew that you were a safe place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And in moments where they are maybe missing mom and dad, that they learn that the connection continues on in another fashion, right? So they have that tangible thing to reach for when the tangible bodies aren't here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I like that very much.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And you know, for the audience here, you know, you're safe to always talk about that stuff here in my inbox. And if you want to be on the podcast, I would love to hear from you too, because I feel like the one way that we can create belief, affirm connection, and have that hope is really to share our stories with others. I learn every day from people that I meet and hear how signs and curating connection helps make their life more impactful, deeper, and I don't know. It's just kind of miraculous when you can have those connections.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00All right, any other wise words of wisdom before we finish up today, Jed?
SPEAKER_01Uh take three deep breaths and drink two more glasses of water than you did today.
SPEAKER_00Hydration for the brain. There we go.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, absolutely. No, this is fun. Kim, I appreciate the invite, and I encourage your listeners to reach out and share some of those stories with yourself so you can help distribute them and keep this line of communication open for everybody.
SPEAKER_00I really appreciate what you shared with us today. I'm honored that you were here and vulnerable about everything you experienced. And I can't wait for our challenge episode to come up to see what signs we've received. So as we end today, get out your journal, people. Set your intention, use the sign method, and we can't wait to hear back from you, right, Jed?
SPEAKER_01Love it. Looking forward to it very much.
SPEAKER_00Keep seeking signs.
